ALAYNE DICKEY
A lot of my current works are on the subject matter of water. Looking
down onto water, mostly being burn and sea water, I take interest in the
movement and the range of colours that lie in the different levels below
the water s surface. These colours are coming from the debris, stones,
seaweed, and reeds. These materials textures are different to one another
and I have taken this into account through the way they are painted with
a variety of techniques and medium used. The movement is also portrayed
in this same way. The movement of the water together with the changing
lights reflections play a part in the colours used but even more so they
determine where and how the shapes and forms of the colours rest.
As well as looking down into water I take an interest in the surface movements
and sea sprays and the affects of the direct surroundings, which can include
rough textured and vibrant coloured cliff surrounds. These Seascapes and
Landscapes that I paint are mostly influenced by the shift of weather.
Wild, blustery weather enables me to create dark dramatic Seascapes. Whereas
with calmer, brighter days I tend to take my attentions inland and focus
on the still rich coloured shapes of the Landscape. I like to use a variety
of materials and techniques in the majority of the work that I produce
as a way of portraying the different textures and movements of the Landscapes
and Seascapes. This involves a lot of experimentation in working out what
materials work well together.
