Graham Howard

I started carving in tooling leather in the 1980's, just doing plain items such as belts, handbags etc. From this I decided to experiment, and apart from reading basic books on carving I have taught myself through trial and error. I now make most of my tools in order to achieve the texture and depth I am looking for. Unlike water colours or oils where the paint used defines the texture and depth of a painting, it is the carving and working of the leather that defines the texture and depth. The satisfaction in my work is in the challenge to develop carving and painting in leather into an art form.
