Artist Statement ::
Most of my work is non objective Abstract art: the nature of the work is dependent largely on colour, form and composition. I like to experiment using different media, and supports, but find I use acrylics and mixed media materials most frequently as it suits my spontaneous working method. Through my abstract paintings, I believe that I can express the most complex emotions using the simplest of forms. I choose to paint in a non-objective way. For me, mystery is an important element in what I am trying to convey. I like the fact that my works may sometimes be difficult to fathom and believe that each viewer brings their own life experiences to the piece; making their own interpretation a reality, I like that. I don t want everything to have a clear cut explanation, for me my Abstract work is like life: it is full of contradictions! I am continually exploring the relationship between our urban environment and the inner workings of our emotions & thoughts. My approach to painting initially is spontaneous; often working very quickly allowing the painting to take form, then gradually becoming more detailed as the composition grows, almost in an organic way. I am not concerned with making a recognisable image although the viewer may interpret some symbols and shapes I use in their own way. What really excites me is how the colours, form and composition express some feeling, tug at our senses, perhaps provoke a little mystery?
