Artists Comments: Another view of the Naruto Straits from a distance, with ships under the bridge. The pine tree in this picture is the same tree as in #0838, but in that picture we cannot see the bridge, because the view is at a slightly different angle. This particular view is taken from a greater distance and higher up, so that the tops of trees hide the grass & pampas seen in picture #0838. This pine tree is called ‘akamatsu’ in Japanese; ‘aka’ is red, and‘matsu’ means pine.
